Acting Audition

Acting through song Workshop

Musical Theatre has been a long standing success within the theatre industry. But what makes it incredible? The songs. And what is a musical theatre song without a stellar performance?

This workshop is lead and designed by industry professional Matthew Hobbs. Credits include but are not limited to National Gilbert and Sullivan, The 12 Tenors World Tour, Choir of Man - West End, Australian, and United States Tour.

One vital part of musical performance that is often ignored is the mental preparation and attitude needed. Performing a song can be daunting for even the most confident of artists. Matthew's well-rounded knowledge and skills will create a safe space for your students to work past any vulnerability and focus on how to enjoy the process.

In this workshop your students will have the opportunity to gain insight from a working professional, explore the fundamentals of acting through song, and how to successfully portray a character when performing a song. Through a variety of industry standard exercises, your students will also be given the tools to explore the process of showing character through the use of song, how we communicate this to an audience, and most importantly, how to approach performing through song with confidence.

During this workshop, your students will be encouraged to present their chosen piece whether it be musical theatre or contemporary where it will be workshopped on a 1-1 basis with Matthew to perfect their performance.

Optional (free of charge): For future use and theoretical purposes, the entire workshop can be recorded and made privately available after it has taken place. We believe this is extremely effective when working and developing, it helps to remember what was discussed and practiced while allowing you to move freely without having to worry about taking notes!
