Platform Theatre Workshop
Description
Platform Theatre is one of the most unique styles of theatre around the globe. This style takes physical theatre to the next level where the actors not only play characters, but also become the set, props, costumes, and everything else in-between, all whilst being confined to a small space that is a gym mat.
This workshop will be led by an award-winning platform theatre actor and director of the UK touring piece Twisted Tales. Collecting a total of 12 awards including, best original piece, best actor, best actress, best ensemble, and best director.
Your students will be introduced to the fundamentals of this theatre style and have the opportunity to devise their very own platform theatre piece combining the techniques of physical theatre, mime, and the role of voice to create a piece that is truly unique.
The students will be provided with an insight on how platform theatre can be utilised for minimal budget performances by using body and voice to symbolise physical elements such as props, set, costume, and sound effects.
Optional (free of charge): For future use and theoretical purposes, the entire workshop can be recorded and made privately available after it has taken place. We believe this is extremely effective when working and developing, it helps to remember what was discussed and practiced while allowing you to move freely without having to worry about taking notes!
Curriculum
The students will learn the specific features of the style and how platform theatre is created. We will also provide practical insight on how platform theatre can enforce discipline and a new way of utilising the use of limited performance space and spatial relationships on stage between the actors and the audience. Furthermore, we will explore how basic physical theatre techniques can be used widely as a performer when tacking a character's physical interpretation such as physicality, facial expressions, build, height and age.
