Devising naturalistic theatre

Description

Devising a theatre piece from scratch can be a challenging and frustrating process. Our workshop is specifically catered to aid the creative process and assist with how best to tackle the theoretical side. We have designed this workshop to specifically show the participants how best to tackle a new devising project or breathe new life and discover the potential in an existing piece.

This workshop will be led by an award-winning physical theatre actor and director of the UK touring piece Twisted Tales. Collecting a total of 12 awards including, best original piece, best actor, best actress, best ensemble, and best director.

We will explore a range of devising and improvisation exercises inspired by practitioners such as Stanislavski, Artaud, and Brecht. During these exercises, we will cover the use of stimuli, action vs reaction, Mantle of the Expert, and the tools needed to create theatre. All exercises will be explained in great detail so that the participants understand how to use them again in the future, who the inspiring practitioner is and how this helped with working towards their end goal.

Optional (free of charge): For future use and theoretical purposes, the entire workshop can be recorded and made privately available after it has taken place. We believe this is extremely effective when working and developing, it helps to remember what was discussed and practiced while allowing you to move freely without having to worry about taking notes!
